Effective January 2009, D.O.B. requires additional elevator inspections and tests, called Category 1 and Category 5 tests. These tests shall be "Witnessed and Certified" by an authorized Private Elevator Inspection Agency licensed to do so by the Department of Buildings.
Previously, the company that maintains your elevators were allowed to perform these elevator and escalator inspection services. These self-inspections today are considered a "Conflict of Interest".You as the Owner / Agent are required to employ an Authorized Third Party Elevator Inspection Agency to witness and certify these elevator inspections and tests and file all inspection reports with the Department of Buildings with in 45 days.
Additionally, in New Jersey, we are the oldest Elevator inspection agency authorized by the Department of Community Affairs to perform "Annual and Semi-annual" inspection and tests of elevator devices which include Escalators, Moving Walks, Dumbwaiters, Private Residence Elevators, and Wheelchair lifts.
